Rosenfeld Katz
A Taste of Resilience,
Memory,
Art.

Sandra Rosenfeld Katz is an educator, culinary artist, painter, and international lecturer who has dedicated her life to Holocaust education through creative expression. By harmonizing history, sensory memory, visual art, and culinary heritage, Sandra brings historical memory into contemporary dialogue.
She is best known for pioneering innovative educational initiatives—most notably "Tastes Without Borders"—which trace the cultural journeys, migrations, and survival stories behind iconic recipes, alongside a distinguished career in fine art and pastry making.

Roots of Memory: A Legacy of Survival
Sandra’s deep commitment to Holocaust remembrance is rooted in her family history. Her grandmother, Boeske, survived the Holocaust alongside Sandra’s father under extraordinarily harrowing circumstances. At just twelve years old, Sandra’s father endured forced labor in a camp, working side by side with his mother to survive the brutal realities of the Holocaust.
Growing up with the echoes of their perseverance, Sandra was profoundly moved by their story. For her, Holocaust education became more than a historical curriculum—it became a sacred personal mission to preserve the dignity, stories, and lived humanity of survivors for future generations.
Culinary Heritage and Jerusalem
Alongside the stories of endurance, Sandra inherited another enduring legacy from her grandmother: a deep passion and love for pastry making. In Boeske’s kitchen, baking was an act of warmth, continuity, and love. As Sandra traveled and eventually moved to Israel, this passion evolved into professional mastery.
In 1996, Sandra’s culinary path led her to the esteemed Jerusalem restaurant Michael Andrew, co-founded by chef Andrew and chef Michael Katz. Sandra joined the team as the restaurant’s head pastry chef, infusing her creations with technical precision, rich flavors, and cultural warmth. The kitchen brought professional fulfillment as well as personal love: it was here that she met Michael Katz, who became her husband and lifelong partner.

Bridging her two greatest callings—pastry arts and Holocaust education—Sandra conceived "Tastes Without Borders". This groundbreaking project explores the rich tapestry of memory through the lens of culinary heritage.
Sandra recognized that food carries culture, trauma, migration, and joy. Through engaging video storytelling, workshops, and educational presentations, "Tastes Without Borders" unpacks the stories behind our favorite dishes—uncovering how recipes traveled across continents, adapted through hardship, and served as enduring symbols of home for displaced families and refugees. By presenting culinary history alongside human perseverance, Sandra offers audiences a multi-sensory entry point into understanding the Holocaust and the enduring power of survival.
Visual Art: Carving in Oil
Beyond culinary storytelling, Sandra is an accomplished visual artist whose work reflects the organic textures and resilience of the natural world. Developing a distinctive technique that involves carving directly into layers of oil paint, Sandra creates tactile, deeply layered canvases that capture movement, depth, and raw emotion.
Her artwork has been featured in solo and group exhibitions internationally, earning acclaim in both Israel and Mexico. Her paintings stand as a visual counterpart to her educational work—exploring themes of roots, regeneration, memory, and the beauty that emerges from enduring landscapes.
Global Impact and Speaking
Today, Sandra Rosenfeld Katz is an internationally sought-after speaker, educator, and cultural contributor. She is regularly invited to lead workshops, deliver lectures, and participate in cross-cultural educational initiatives across Germany, Serbia, Mexico, the United States, Israel, and beyond.
Whether speaking to students, community leaders, or international cultural organizations, Sandra continues to break down boundaries—proving that memory and history are best preserved not only through textbooks, but through the universal languages of art, taste, and shared human story.
